Bagua Zhang: The Art of Circular Motion
Bagua Zhang, another sacred movement practice, is based on the Daoist I Ching (Book of Changes) and the concept of the eight trigrams. Unlike the linear sequences of Taiji Quan, Bagua Zhang is defined by constant circular walking patterns, coiling movements, and spiraling force.
Bagua Zhang’s signature practice, known as circle walking, involves stepping smoothly in a circular path while maintaining an upright posture and fluid arm movements. This movement cultivates internal balance, agility, and adaptability, making it highly effective for both martial applications and meditative focus. The constant turning and twisting of the body generate a powerful internal energy flow, stimulating the meridians and enhancing qi circulation.
Similar to Taiji Quan, Bagua Zhang is not only a martial art but also a spiritual and energetic discipline. The practice is designed to expand awareness, integrate breath with motion, and dissolve tension, allowing practitioners to move with natural ease and vitality.
