The Yoga of Pilgrimage
There is a spiritual teaching and practice called the Yoga of Pilgrimage. The time to practice this is when one goes on a long spiritual journey. Before leaving, it is really important to tie up all loose ends, pay back debts, give acknowledgements, ask for forgiveness, and give forgiveness. One does whatever one can to close loops before going on this 3-6 month spiritual journey.
Taken further, can this be a way of life before any trip, large or small? What about at the end of each week, to air grievances, keep affairs in order, and share love? We can clean our house, make our bed, ensure the last words we said were uplifting and true, in case we don’t make it back. The idea of this practice is that living life on a daily basis, as if it is your last stand, can provide freedom, peace, and the ability to let go more easier when the day comes to find out what is next and greet it joyfully.
