The Sacrum
The sacrum acts as a pump for cerebrospinal fluid to travel up the spinal cord to the brain. The opening and closing of the hips during chi kung, Taoist yoga, and tai chi activates this sacral pump.
When we sit too much, we sit on the sacrum and the sacral pump, and the fluid doesn’t flow. When we move the hips, walk, stretch, and squat, we activate the flow the energy in the hips and sacrum. This activation of energy increases the flow of energy throughout the body and the points along the energy meridians. When we sit too much, our energy stagnates in the lower centers.
