The Pineal Gland
Here are some ways to Activate the Pineal Gland:
- Spend time in the sunlight every day
- Sleep in complete Darkness
- Commit to a regular meditation practice as this will develop and enhance your pineal gland
The pineal gland sits in the middle of the brain, level with our eyes. It is in the area known as the third eye. The pineal gland regulates circadian rhythms on a daily, seasonal, and yearly basis. This gland regulates the onset of puberty.
The pineal gland also regulates melatonin, our sleep cycles, and the quality of our sleep. Melatonin is responsible for fighting against free radicals and a decline in melatonin triggers the aging process in the body. Serotonin, the happy chemical responsible for our mood, is transformed into melatonin only in the pineal gland. The pineal plays a major role in hibernation of animals, in metabolism, and seasonal breeding.
Taoists work with the endocrine glands, and the pineal gland, from the beginning of the system to the most advanced practices. A crucial part of this Taoist system is to build a strong body and nervous system. We don’t want to just ‘open the third eye’ without being stable in our energy body. A lot of energy can be released from meditating on the glands, so we want to feel grounded.
