Skin Breathing
Skin breathing is a meditation and visualization technique of breathing energy in and out through the pores of the skin. This process fosters the continuous exchange between the energies of the inner body and the outer environment. The hairs of the skin also act like antennas and can absorb energies in the outer environment somewhat like a cat’s whiskers helps their awareness.
During the practice of skin breathing, the borders between the inside and outside of the body tend to dissolve. A sense of unity with other beings and nature itself can arise. It’s possible to feel grounded in the body and grounded in the body of nature simultaneously. Over time, Taoists describe it as being ‘hard wired’ into nature. In addition to skin breathing, hitting the skin with bamboo or rattan, and skin brushing can enhance this natural exchange process.
